Castle tour

Château de Couches welcomes you to an ancient fortress of the Duchy of Burgundy, with roots dating back to the 11th century. As a historic witness to the frontier between the Kingdom of France and the Duchy of Burgundy, the château has survived the centuries by preserving its exceptional defensive character.

This medieval castle dominates the region from its strategic position, with its crenellated towers and imposing keep. We won't tell you any more about it, as you'll find out all about its history during your visit to the Château. While you wait for the day, we'll share a bit of history with you...

Château de Couches is not only a historic site, but also a winegrowing estate with a rich tradition dating back to 1586, as Florian Mourey's thesis attests. The meticulously tended vineyards still produce excellent wines today, including the renowned “Clos Marguerite”. Discover these unique flavors by choosing the visit format: tour and tasting.

We invite you to book your visit to take full advantage of the Château de Couches experience. Among the various tours offered by Château de Couches, find detailed explanations for each one below:

Guided tour

Guided tours allow you to discover the site with a personalised presentation and an interactive discussion with future tour guides who are completing their final year of study or apprenticeship... centuries of history brought to life by enthusiastic young people.

A short guide to making the most of the place

A former fortress of the Duchy of Burgundy dating back to the 11th century, the Château of Couches defended the border separating the Kingdom of France from the Duchy of Burgundy. Over the centuries, the site has undergone many transformations, but its defensive character remains intact.

This stronghold dominates the road and the surrounding countryside from the top of its crenellated towers and keep. Inside, visitors can explore the flamboyant Gothic chapel, the square tower (former residence of the local lords), the tower of justice, the upper and lower courts, and, above all, the impressive underground passages (tour lasts approximately 1 hour). However, the residential quarters, which are still inhabited today, are not open to visitors.

The castle still has its vineyards, the oldest evidence of which dates back to 1586 (Thesis by Florian Mourey). The ‘Clos Marguerite’ still produces excellent wines to this day... don't hesitate to discover them.
